What3Trees is dedicated to reforestation and carbon offsetting. Using What3Words grid technology and soon, high-resolution satellite imagery, we will provide verifiable proof of tree growth, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Effective reforestation requires transparency. Many tree-planting initiatives lack verification, leaving donors uncertain. What3Trees will soon provide half-yearly updated satellite images, allowing contributors to track tree growth and impact.
We focus on reforesting a rural area along the Kenyan coast near Malindi, primarily with coconut trees. These trees support local communities economically and environmentally, contributing to sustainable development, and high carbon sequestration.
Through our upcoming involvement with SkyFi, we will provide half-yearly updated high-resolution satellite imagery of planted trees, offering a clear and verifiable record of their growth over time.
Planting and maintaining a coconut tree until it becomes self-sustaining (5-6 years) costs 25 Euros. This cost includes:
✔️ Seedling procurement costs
✔️ Water and irrigation costs
✔️ Workforce and ongoing care
✔️ Operating costs
✔️ Extra costs for scaling operations
Each contribution directly supports reforestation efforts and environmental sustainability.
A single coconut tree absorbs approximately 3.8 to 3.9 tonnes of CO₂ over its 60-70 year lifespan. Offsetting an average UK resident's annual carbon footprint (12.7 tonnes) requires planting about four trees per year.
3.8 tonnes is enough to offset the emissions from almost 2 full round-trip flights between London and Los Angeles.
Our upcoming satellite imagery ensures that every contribution results in measurable reforestation.
